KELLER, Texas - The IUPUI men's golf team had five guys put together consistent rounds on day one of the 2013 Summit League Championships at the par-72 Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club on Monday (Apr. 22) and sits seventh of nine teams after 18 holes.

With no Jaguars going especially low, IUPUI carded an opening round 311 and is 16 shots behind leader Kansas City after day one. Western Illinois is second at 298 while South Dakota (299), North Dakota State (303) and South Dakota State (306) make up the top five.

"I don't think they finished well, but for the most part, they played about as I expected," IUPUI Head Coach John Andrews said. "We lost some shots at the end of the round that I wish we wouldn't have, but that's part of it.

"I'd hate for us to come out and shoot 288 tomorrow and then look back at the first round and have those shots come back and haunt us."

Junior Rob van de Vin and freshman Jordan Lenard both shot 5-over 77's to pace IUPUI on Monday. van de Vin, the lone holdover from last year's Summit League championship squad, played even over the final 11 holes after starting his day with five bogeys on the first seven holes.

Lenard made 12 pars in his first postseason round, but finished the day with a double bogey to move him back to five over. He and van de Vin are tied for 19th among the 45-player field.

Freshman Austin Winings finished the day at 6-over 78 and both Cole Adams and Santiago Ruiz shot 79. Adams made three birdies while Ruiz made 13 pars.

"The guys thought the course played pretty well," Andrews said. "The par 5's are birdie opportunities, the par 3's are not.

"That being said, I've got to have someone shoot par. That'll get our score closer to where we need it to be."

The Kansas City duo of Korbin Kuehn and Antoine Rozner lead the field at 3-under 69 and two others shot 2-under 70 on Monday.

The Jaguars will be in the first grouping to head out on Tuesday (Apr. 23) and paired with Fort Wayne and Omaha. Ruiz, IUPUI's first player scheduled to tee off, will go out at 11:15 Eastern with groups staggered from there in nine minute increments. van de Vin will be the last Jag out, starting at 11:51 p.m..
