MEN'S TENNIS BEGINS BUSY WEEK ON WEDNESDAY AT MARIAN UNIVERSITY

Jags begin week at Marian before meeting Omaha and DePaul

4/2/2013 3:45:00 PM

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A busy week is on tap for the IUPUI men's tennis team beginning with a trip to nearby Marian University on Wednesday, April 3.

Following Wednesday's match at Marian, the Jaguars will head to Fort Wayne, Ind., to resume Summit League play against Omaha after their first pair of Summit League matches did not start the way the Jaguars would have liked back on March 23-24 with a pair of 4-3 losses to Kansas City and South Dakota State.

The Jags and Mavs are scheduled to meet at 11 a.m., at IPFW’s Tennis Courts, and they will head right from Fort Wayne to Chicago, Ill., to face the DePaul Blue Demons on Saturday, April 6, at 4 p.m.

“We are coming off a tough weekend with two very close losses, but we are feeling confident in our ability to get the job done this week,” head coach Brandon Currie said. “We realize what we are playing for as we approach the end of the regular season, and we are looking forward to the challenge. We have been in this situation before and with our experience, I believe guys are ready to step up and rise to the occasion.”

Jason Jaruvang has led the team in recent weeks posting six singles wins in his last seven matches, but the Jags have fell just short in six of those seven matches. In losing six straight, three of IUPUI’s losses have come by one point and the other three have been by two points.

The Knights come into the mid-week match with a 15-6 overall record, and Wednesday's match will be their first against a D-I opponent after having their match against Valparaiso scheduled for March 12 cancelled because of rain.

Omaha enters April with a 4-7 record, including a 0-1 Summit League mark. The Mavericks have dropped four of their last five matches, including a 5-2 defeat to Creighton last Friday (March 29).

DePaul owns a 4-15 record coming into the first weekend of April and its match against the Jags on Saturday will be just its second home match since Feb. 16.
