KELLER, Texas - The IUPUI women's golf team will head to Sky Creek Ranch seeking the program's first-ever Summit League Tournament title this week. The 54-hole event is slated for 18 holes on Monday (Apr. 22), Tuesday (Apr. 23) and Wednesday (Apr. 24). Despite being picked second in this year's Summit League Preseason Polls, the Jaguars have never finished higher than third in the league's postseason event.

In 2004, Head Coach John Andrews' squad placed third of five schools, shooting 998 at The Fort in Indianapolis. That came on the heels of three consecutive fourth-place finishes. Last year, the Jaguars placed fifth of 10 teams, shooting 926 at Primm Valley in Primm, Nev.. Current senior Jordan Woods and Kristi O'Brien led the way, both shooting 230 to tie for 13th among the 50-player field last season.

This year's senior-laden group returns four players from last season's championship lineup. Sophomore Yuri Otsuka shot 233 last season while Lauren Kuss carded a 234. Senior Jordan Essman shot 243 last season.

Both Kuss and Woods are playing in their fourth Summit League Tournaments while Essman is playing in her third postseason event. Otsuka is making her second straight appearance and midyear addition Ana Fernandez de Mesa is making her postseason debut. Woods has an 80.44 scoring average in nine postseason rounds and Kuss has an 82.13 mark in eight Summit League tourney rounds. Essman has registered an 80.17 stroke average in six postseason rounds.

This season, Kuss leads the team and ranks third in The Summit with a 78.12 scoring average, including seven top 10 finishes. Kuss capped the regular season on a high note, winning the rain shortened Butler Spring Invitational on Thursday (Apr. 18) after shooting an even-par 72 at Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Ind..

Otsuka is second on the team and ninth in the league in stroke average at 79.08 while Woods is tenth in The Summit at 79.52. Woods is second on the team with six top 10 finishes.

Fernandez de Mesa has a 79.56 scoring average since joining the squad at the start of the spring semester while Essman has an 81.56 average in 18 rounds.

The Jaguars are undefeated by Summit League opponents this season, having beaten IPFW three times and having finished ahead of Oakland, South Dakota State and Western Illinois one time each. As a team, the Jaguars own the league's second-best scoring average at 316.36. North Dakota State, led by one of the nation's top players in Amy Anderson, has the league's best mark at 311.80.
