OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha's Campbell Ditto continued her offensive attack against IUPUI on Sunday afternoon (April 14) in Omaha, Neb., accounting for all three of Omaha’s runs in the Jaguars’ 3-0 loss.
With the loss, IUPUI falls to 15-22 overall and 5-10 in Summit League, while Omaha improves to 30-5 overall and 8-1 in Summit League.
The Jags were unable to threaten the Mavericks’ defense until the top of the fourth inning.
Ali Mosier led off the inning with a single to left field and stole second during
Eryn Dillon’s at-bat. Dillon singled to shortstop and advanced Mosier to third base, but Omaha snuck out of the inning unharmed on a strikeout, ground out and a line out.
IUPUI put runners in scoring position again in sixth inning when
Kelsey Rupert led off with a single down the left field line. Rupert advanced to second two outs later on a single from
Jessica Lam, but the Jags could not pull out a timely hit to score the runs.
In the seventh inning, the Jags put together a two-out rally and almost capitalized on two Omaha errors. With two outs,
Aundria Basquez walked. In the next at-bat,
Morgan Schlobohm reached base on a throwing error from Omaha third baseman, Molly Negrete. Rupert loaded up the base when she forced shortstop Tonya Peterson to make an error, but the Mavericks ended the game unscathed with a strikeout.
Omaha wasted no time in putting a couple of runs on the board. In the bottom of the first inning, Allie Mathewson led off with a single to Mosier. Tara Trede attempted the sacrifice bunt, but IUPUI made the throw to catch Mathewson at second, however, both Mathewson and Trede were safe on the play. Ditto doubled to right centerfield to score both runs and make the score 2-0 early on.
The Mavericks tacked on an insurance run in the fourth on a Ditto homerun to left field.
Dana Elsasser picked up the win for the Mavericks, tossing a complete game, four-hit shutout. Elsasser improved to 18-5 on the season, recording 10 strikeouts in the win.
Nicole Natter took the loss for IUPUI, falling to 0-2 on the season. Natter allowed two runs on three hits and one walk in only one and two-thirds innings.
Cassie Vodde came in to finish out the remainder of the game. Vodde allowed one run on two hits.
The Jags are back in action on the road against Summit League opponent Western Illinois on Tuesday, April 16, at 4 p.m. ET and 6:30 p.m. ET, and again on Wednesday, April 17, at 5 p.m. ET.
