BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On the strength of an opening round 308, the IUPUI women's golf team sits in sixth-place of 15 teams after shooting 627 (308-319) on day one of the Indiana Invitational on Saturday (Apr. 13). Host Indiana leads the field at 595 and Kansas is second at 600.

Toledo (616), Eastern Michigan (620) and Ball State (625) all sit in front of the Jaguars heading into Sunday's final round at the IU Varsity Course.

Senior Lauren Kuss leads the IUPUI lineup, having shot 5-over 149 (70-79) on Saturday. IU's Elizabeth Tong leads the 85-player field at 2-over 146 and Eastern Michigan's Corey Crossan is second at 148. Kuss is tied for third amongst the field with six birdies.

Behind her, junior Ana Fernandez de Mesa is tied for 18th at 155 (75-80) and senior Jordan Essman shot 162 (82-80) on Saturday.

Senior Jordan Woods came in at 163 (83-80) on day one and sophomore Yuri Otsuka, the team's stroke average leader this season, capped the Jaguars' lineup at 165 (81-84).

Third-year sophomore Olivia Kuss shot 169 (81-88) while playing as an individual.

Overall, IUPUI was tied for third after a first round 308, but faltered in the day's second round to slide back to sixth. IUPUI holds a one-shot lead over Illinois State and two-shot advantage over Akron heading into the final 18.

Sunday's final round is slated to begin with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
