INDIANAPOLIS – A busy three-day, three-match homestand began on Friday, April 12, for the IUPUI men’s tennis team and the Jaguars started the weekend on a high note with a 4-2 victory over in-state and Summit League rival Fort Wayne at the West Indy Racquet Club.
 
The win improved IUPUI to 5-16 overall on the season and evened its record at 2-2 in the conference.
 
Despite falling behind by a point after Fort Wayne captured two of three doubles matches, the Jaguars came out strong in singles action.
 
Jason Jaruvang continued his stellar performance in Summit League play with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 singles position to get the Jags their first point of the day while improving to 4-0 in singles matches in league-only action.
 
Senior Nick Volz, who is playing his final three home matches this weekend, also came away with a straight-sets win - 6-4, 6-1 – at the second spot to put IUPUI in front, 2-1, but a win from the Mastodons at the third position knotted the score at 2-2.
 
From that point, IUPUI came away with a pair of three-set victories as Deon Shafer earned a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win at the fourth position and Armaan Choudhary overcame a first-set loss to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, to clinch the victory for the Jaguars in the fifth spot.
 
The Jags are back in action on Saturday, April 13, when they take on Detroit at 2 p.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club.
