NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - The IUPUI women's golf team opened up its 2013 Spring Break trip on Saturday (Mar. 9) at the Purdue Mount Vintage Invitational at Mount Vintage Plantation Club in North Augusta, S.C.. With two ranked teams among the six-team field, the Jaguars sat in fifth-place after 18 holes after shooting 330 in the morning.

No. 28 Iowa State shot a first round 305 to lead the field while Coastal Carolina was one shot back at 306. Host Purdue is third at 313.

The newest Jaguars, Ana Fernandez de Mesa led the squad with an opening round 79 and both Yuri Otsuka and Kelli Witt shot 83.

Fernandez de Mesa was 4-over through four holes in the morning round, but was consistent from there, carding 11 pars and three bogeys the rest of the way. Witt had three birdies on her card, but also had four double bogeys in her first action of the spring.
