KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The IUPUI women's golf team capped its first event of the spring season with a 26th place finish at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Mar. 5), carding a final round 330 on its way to a 54-hole 989 (327-332-330). The Jaguars jumped ahead of Bucknell on the tournament's final day, but was unable to make of a move as no Jaguar broke 80 for the second straight round.

"I didn't see a turn in progress like I thought I would," IUPUI Head Coach John Andrews said. "We made lots of mistakes, but that's what happens the first time out. We've got a practice round coming up and we play in Purdue's tournament right after that.

"Overall, this wasn't a good event for our team in terms of finish and team scoring. But, I would say the attitudes were pretty good and they stayed pretty good."

Sophomore Yuri Otsuka was IUPUI's low scorer with a 9-over 81, including making 10 pars on Tuesday. The native of Japan finished the tournament at 245 (81-83-81), tying for 108th among the 172-player field.

Junior Ana Fernandez de Mesa carded an 82 on Tuesday, including making a pair of birdies, while Jordan Woods turned in an 83.

Woods, the team's stroke average leader entering the spring, closed at 255. Sophomore Olivia Kuss finished on a high note, shooting 88 on the final day after not breaking 90 in her first two rounds while playing as an individual.

No. 36 Campbell overtook host College of Charleston on the final day to claim the tournament title at 899 (301-299-299) while CofC was second at 902. Troy (906), Richmond (914) and UNC-Greensboro (917) rounded out the top five.
