JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - The IUPUI women's golf team sits in fifth-place among the 10-team field at the Benbow Invitational after firing a first round 333 at the par-72 Jacksonville Beach Golf Club on Monday (Mar. 11). Cleveland State and Appalachian State lead the field at 327 and Bethune-Cookman is third at 330. Host Butler (332) and IUPUI (333) round out the top five.
Senior
Lauren Kuss led the Jaguars' lineup with a first round 79 and is tied for fifth among the 61-player field while sophomore
Yuri Otsuka came in at 83. Senior
Jordan Woods closed at 84 and junior
Ana Fernandez de Mesa capped the scoring four at 87.
Sophomore
Carolyn Kupchik rounded out the lineup at 95 while
Kelli Witt (88) and
Maria Krempp (91) played the tournament as individuals.
Both Witt and Kuss tied for the team lead with a pair of birdies on Monday. Butler's Jenna Peters leads the field after a 3-over 75 and Appalachian State's Yue Xu is second at 77. Kuss was one of four players to card opening round 79's on Monday.
