NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - The IUPUI women's golf team finished play at the Purdue Mount Vintage Invitational on Sunday (Mar. 10), finishing sixth among the six-team field after shooting a 54-hole 1,008. IUPUI carded a final round 343 and finished one shot back of fifth-place Delaware, which shot a final round 324.

Coastal Carolina won the tournament at 910 and No. 28 Iowa State finished at 911. Host Purdue, ranked No. 15 nationally, placed third at 913. Augusta State's Casey Kennedy earned medalist honors at 3-over 219, bettering the field by four strokes.

"The golf course was good and the greens were tough. This was the kind of course I wanted our girls to have the opportunity to play," IUPUI Head Coach John Andrews said. "It's still not what I was looking for from a numbers standpoint."

Junior Ana Fernandez de Mesa led the Jaguars' lineup at 244 (+28) while senior Lauren Kuss finished at 251 (88-79-84). Fernandez de Mesa finished the tournament with five birdies, including three during her second round.

Sophomore Yuri Otsuka's two-day 259 (83-85-91) was highlighted by an ace on the par-3, 130-yard 15th hole during round two. The native of Japan hit a blind 5-iron right at the pin for the hole-in-one. Senior Jordan Woods matched Otsuka's effort at 259 (85-88-86) and sophomore Kelli Witt rounded out the Jaguars' quintet at 274 (83-95-96).

Redshirt freshman Maria Krempp played the tournament as an individual, finishing at 277 (94-87-96).

The lone saving grace for the Jaguars is that there's four straight days of golf forthcoming.

"We've got another tournament tomorrow," Andrews said.

"Right on the 18th green today, Yuri and I were talking about it," Kuss said. "We're just a little rusty and didn't get to play a lot. You can hit a lot of good shots in practice, but it's not the same. We just have to get that focus back and get back mentally to where we were. We need to play aggressive and try to make birdies. That'll calm us down a little bit.

"If we get off to a good start, it'll go from there and take some of the pressure off."

IUPUI will continue its busy Spring Break week by competing in the Don Benbow Invitational at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club in Jacksonville Beach, Fla..
