RIVERSIDE, Calif.-- The IUPUI softball team won its final game of the Mizuno Invitational hosted by UC Riverside in Riverside, Calif., on Sunday afternoon (March 10) against Southern Utah, 5-1.

IUPUI redeemed its 3-1 loss to Southern Utah on Saturday afternoon with the win today. The win brings IUPUI to 3-1 on the weekend and 8-9 overall, while Southern Utah fell to 4-14.

The Jags jumped on the board early when Kelsey Rupert led off the top of the first inning with a single to shortstop. She advanced all the way to third on an Ali Mosier sacrifice bunt and scored on a Lindsey Richards single to right field.

Southern Utah was able to tie the game up in the bottom of the third when two IUPUI errors allowed a run to score.  It seemed the Jags would sneak out of the inning unharmed when it retired two outs at second on fielder's choice plays. With two outs Terysa Dyer singled to right field, giving the Thunderbirds runners on first and second.  The next play, Madison Resley reached base on an error from second baseman, Ali Mosier, allowing runners to advance to second and third, and Kadi Henderson scored after catcher Eryn Dillon committed another error.

However, Southern Utah would not reach second base for the remainder of the game.

The Jags tacked on the only other run it would need to pull out the win in the fifth. Morgan Schlobohm led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Rupert grounded out to the pitcher but advanced Schlobohm to third. Mosier was able to make up for her error in the third when she hit a one-out RBI grounder to the shortstop to score Schlobohm and bring the score to 2-1.

IUPUI's offense continued to work and added three more insurance runs in the seventh. After a double to right-center field from Megan Cory and a single from Schlobohm, the Jags were able to take advantage of two consecutive Thunderbird errors that would result in three runs for the Jags.

Cassie Vodde pitched a complete game, six-hit gem, allowing only two runners to reach base after the error-filled third inning.  Vodde collected her fourth win in the circle, bringing her to 4-1 overall, while SUU pitcher Zimmerman fell to 3-7.

Mosier continued her offensive incline going 1-for-3 and tallying two more RBIs to bring her weekend total to 11. Richards went 2-for-3 to collect her sixth multi-hit game of the season, and Schlobohm went 3-for-3 to post her third multi-hit game of the season.

The Jags will be back in action on March 15 when they open a three-game Summit League series against South Dakota State University at the IUPUI Softball Complex. Friday's game will be the Jags home opener.
