YORKTOWN, Ind. - The IUPUI women's golf team carded a final round 310 on Sunday (Sept. 23) at the Cardinal Classic, but was unable to climb the leaderboard as the Jaguars finished third among the 12-team field. Both sophomore Yuri Otsuka and senior Lauren Kuss finished tied for eighth at 155, but IUPUI's 624 was 13 shots back of host Ball State's 611. Western Michigan was second at 619.

Sunday's round was delayed at the start due to the first frost of the season and IUPUI never really warmed up on Sunday. Kuss paced the Jaguars with a final round 3-over 75 to finish at 155 (80-75) and Otsuka shot a second round 77 to close at 155 (78-77). Kuss became the lone Jag to earn a third straight top 10 finish to start the year while Otsuka claimed her first top 10 of the season.

Senior Jordan Woods finished the tournament tied for 18th with a 13-over 157 (79-78) and classmate Jordan Essman finished at 162 (77-85).

Sophomore Carolyn Kupchik, making her first career appearance in the Jags' lineup, finished at 163 (83-80) and classmate Lauren Mains shot 162 (81-81) while playing as an individual.

Host Ball State shot a final round 14-over 302 to close at 611, bettering Western Michigan by eight shots. IUPUI's second round 310 was the third-lowest team score on Sunday, but was eight shots off both BSU and Western Michigan. Marshall's Korakot Simsiriwong earned medalist honors in a one-hole playoff with BSU's Jenna Hague. Both finished the tournament at 151 but Simsiriwong made par on the par-4 No. 10 while Hague made a bogey.

IUPUI, which is 27-4-1 (.859) on the season, will return to action on Oct. 8-9 when the Jaguars will participate in the Butler Fall Invitational at Highland Golf & Country Club on 52nd St. on the near Northside.
