CHICAGO - After a runner-up finish at the IU Fall Kickoff to start the year, the IUPUI women's golf team will return to action on Monday (Sept. 17) when they participate in the CSU Cougar Invitational at Harborside International. Play will begin with a 9:00 a.m. Central shotgun start on both days.
The 15-team field includes teams from Bethel, Cleveland State, Eastern Illinois, Green Bay, IPFW, Lewis, Loyola (Ill.), Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, SIU-Edwardsville, Texas-Pan American, UIC, Valparaiso and host Chicago State. Kristi O'Brien earned medalist honors with a 2-over 146 (73-73) at Lost Marsh Golf Course in Hammond, Ind..
Three current Jags also played in that event, keyed by
Jordan Essman at 159 (76-83), while
Lauren Kuss shot 160 (78-82). Senior
Jordan Woods came in at 161 (81-80) as the Jaguars finished four shots back of Bulter.
This year's Jags opened up with a second-place finish at IU, shooting a 36-hole 617 at the IU Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind.. Woods and Kuss tied for sixth among the 69-player field at 149. Woods was sitting in second place after a first round 73, but fired a second round 76 to slide down four slots.
Sophomore
Yuri Otsuka narrowly missed a top 10 finish, tying for 11th at 9-over 153 (75-78). Essman shot 166 to take 31st and redshirt freshman
Maria Krempp rounded out the Jaguars' lineup at 174. Sophomore
Carolyn Kupchik led IUPUI's four individual entries, shooting 164 (83-81) over the two days.
Head coach
John Andrews traveled six players to the CSU Cougar Classic with Krempp and Kupchik both vying for the No. 5 spot in the lineup to start the year. Kupchik, from nearby Crown Point, Ind., played just six rounds as a freshman while registering an 85.00 stroke average.
