INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI softball team traveled north to take on Purdue Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action and the Boilermakers offense continued to roll as they defeated the Jaguars, 9-1.
The loss dropped the Jags to 10-23 overall.
After going down in order in the first, Purdue struck big with six runs in its half of the inning. The bulk of the damage came on a two-out, three run homer as Purdue scored five of the six first-inning runs with two outs.
After Purdue tacked on another run in the second, the Jags put a run on the board in the third. It all started when
Jessica Lam doubled to lead things off, but she remained on second following a pair of strikeouts. Lam moved to third and
Nicole Checkie reached base on a fielding error, before
Kelsey Rupert drove Lam home with a single, closing the gap to 7-1.
Unfortunately, Purdue crossed the plate twice in the third to up their advantage to eight runs and with the Jaguars failing to score in the fourth and fifth, the game ended in the fifth with Purdue winning 9-1.
Lam and Rupert accounted for both of IUPUI’s hits, with Rupert driving home the lone run.
IUPUI is back in action on Friday, April 6, when the Jags welcome Southern Utah to the IUPUI softball field for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
