INDIANAPOLIS –In the midst of a pair of conference road trips, the IUPUI softball team will make a quick stop home on Tuesday, April 17, when it hosts Dayton in a doubleheader at the IUPUI Softball Complex beginning at 4 p.m.

Tuesday’s doubleheader will also serve as the Jags ‘Pink Out’ Game as it will be teaming up with IUPUI’s chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha to raise awareness for Breast Cancer research. Fans are asked to wear pink to the game to support the fight to end breast
cancer, while the Jags will wear pink socks and bows.

Throughout the doubleheader, members of Zeta Tau Alpha will have a table set up where it will be accepting donations as part of its philanthropic efforts.

The Jags are coming off their first Summit League series win this past weekend after taking two of three games from UMKC to improve to 5-10 in conference play.

Last week, the Jags broke out of an offensive slump as four players hit above .300 led by Lindsey Richards’ .556 batting average. Richards posted two multi-hit games, including a career-high three-hit performance against UMKC in Game 2 of Saturday’s doubleheader. Two of Richards’ three hits in that game went for triples, which tied an IUPUI single-game school record for most triples in a game.

The Jaguars pitching duo of Nikki Thomas and Jocelyn Oppenhuis also performed well combining for a 1.08 ERA in 26.0 innings of work. The sophomore duo gave up 20 hits and seven walks, and each recorded a complete-game shutout.

Dayton comes into the week with a 17-22 record, including a 4-12 mark away from home. The Flyers are hitting .262 as a team and are led offensively by Brandy Brown’s .354 average and 17 RBI. Kathleen Maloof leads the squad with seven home runs.

In the circle, UD has a team ERA of 4.04, with Kayla English leading the staff with seven wins and a 2.45 ERA.
