SOFTBALL HEADS TO KANSAS CITY FOR THREE-GAME SET WITH UMKC

Jags and 'Roos play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. ET, before closing the series at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday

KANSAS CITY – The IUPUI softball team returns to Summit League action this weekend when it heads to Kansas City, Mo., to take on UMKC in a three-game set beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m. ET.

IUPUI enters this weekend with an 11-26 overall record after dropping a 4-0 decision to Butler on Thursday, April 12, and a 3-9 Summit League mark.

This will be IUPUI’s second Summit League road trip of the season and the Jags are 3-9 away from home this season. In true road games, IUPUI is hitting just .228, but they are led offensively by Nicole Checkie’s .359 average away from home. Kelsey Rupert is the other Jaguars player hitting above .300 away from home hitting at a .303 clip.

Jocelyn Oppenhuis has been the staff’s top pitcher on the road this season accumulating a 2.78 ERA in 27.2 innings of work while striking out 24 batters.

UMKC comes into the weekend with a 17-20 overall record and a 5-7 conference mark.

The Kangaroos have three players hitting over .300 on the season led by Emily Ott’s .336 average, but in conference play UMKC has five players hitting over the .300 mark. Ott also is the team leader in RBI with 21.

Collectively, the Kangaroos are strong on the base paths swiping 60 bases in 71 attempts this season.

In the circle, Deanna Friese is the ‘Roos top pitcher posting a record of 8-10 and an ERA of 2.96. Friese is one of the top pitchers in the conference in strikeouts punching out 155 batters so far this season.
