IUPUI TAKES ON IPFW WITH REGULAR-SEASON TITLE ON THE LINE

INDIANAPOLIS – A big weekend looms for the IUPUI men’s tennis team as it heads to in-state and Summit League rival IPFW on Friday, April 13, before traveling to Detroit, Mich., to take on Detroit on Sunday, April 15.

The Jags first meet the Mastodons with the regular-season conference title on the line as the Jaguars own a perfect 4-0 record in conference action, while IPFW sits one match back at 3-1.

“We have set ourselves up with an opportunity to win the regular-season conference title and traveling to Fort Wayne and competing against an in-state rival will definitely be a challenge,” said head coach Brandon Currie. “But that’s why we compete and it’s a challenge we look forward to. We have worked extremely hard to get to this point and hopefully we can come out with a victory and the regular-season conference title.”

IUPUI is 9-13 overall on the season, matching its win total from last season. With a win, IUPUI would reach double-digit wins for the first time since winning 10 matches during the 2003-04 season. That season marked the last time the Jags finished with a perfect conference record and a regular-season championship.

The Jaguars have also been playing some of their best tennis the past few weeks posting a 3-1 record with wins over South Dakota State, crosstown rival Butler and Western Illinois, while their lone loss came at No. 21 Indiana.

IPFW comes into the week with an 11-9 overall record and will play at Purdue on Wednesday, April 11, before hosting IUPUI on Friday.
