INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI softball team will spend its weekend away from Summit League competition traveling to Chicago, Ill., to take on Illinois-Chicago in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 31.
On Thursday, the Jags earned a doubleheader split against Indiana State using a complete game from
Jocelyn Oppenhuis to pick up a Game 1 win, before falling 6-2 in the nightcap.
With her two hits in Thursday’s doubleheader against the Sycamores,
Kelsey Rupert moved her team-best batting average to .302.
Oppenhuis’ performance in the opener of the doubleheader against Indiana State dropped her ERA to 3.30 and her career-high nine strikeouts moved her season total to 73, which leads the team.
UIC enters the weekend with a 14-15 overall record and own an impressive .284 team batting average led by Melissa Preish’s .391 clip. The Flames leading home run threat and run producer is Coryn Schmit with six round-trippers and 22 RBI.
However, opponents are hitting .301 against UIC as its two pitchers, Ashley Hewett and Devin Miller, own a combined 3.94 ERA. Miller leads the pair in strikeouts with 91 in 113.1 innings of work.
