INDIANAPOLIS – Last year, the IUPUI men’s tennis team defeated Butler for the first time in program history and on Saturday, March 31, the Jags and Bulldogs will meet again at 7 p.m. at the Butler Bubble on Butler University’s campus.
“This weekend we have a great opportunity to compete against a very talented Butler team,” said head coach
Brandon Currie. “They have one of the top mid-major recruiting classes this year and are a very young and talented group. Although this is a non-conference match, it’s definitely a match we have been looking forward to all season.”
The Jags are coming off a 1-1 record last week, which included a 6-1 Summit League victory over South Dakota State and a 7-0 loss at the hands of No. 21 Indiana.
The win over SDSU kept the Jags unblemished in conference action at 3-0, and Saturday’s match against Butler will be IUPUI’s last tune-up before concluding Summit League play in its next two matches against Western Illinois (April 7) and IPFW (April 13).
“This match [against Butler] is very similar to competing against a conference opponent, and being located in the same city, we are very familiar with one another,” Currie added. “As a program, we look forward to tough competition as it prepares us for the end of the regular season and conference tournament.”
The Bulldogs own a 3-13 overall record entering the week and they will take on Ball State on March 29, before hosting the Jags on March 31. Despite its 3-13 record, Butler has won two in a row coming into the week.
