INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI softball team returns to Summit League play this weekend when it hits the road for its first conference series away from the IUPUI Softball Complex in Vermillion, S.D., against the South Dakota Coyotes.

The series kicks off with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. ET on Friday, March 23, before the series finale takes place at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 24.

The Jags have dropped six in a row, including a three-game set to North Dakota State last weekend, and part of the reason for the Jags struggles has been its struggles at the plate. During this stretch, the Jags are hitting just .226 and they have been outscored 45-13.

Defensively, 13 errors during this six-game span have helped IUPUI opponents score 10 of their 45 runs.

The Coyotes enter the weekend with a 5-22 overall record, but are 3-3 in Summit League play, picking up two wins at UMKC during the opening weekend of conference play before dropping two of three at Southern Utah last weekend.

Katie Dinning leads the squad in hitting at a .330 clip, while Alex Rudeen is tied for the team lead with three home runs while pacing the offense with 12 RBI.

As a group, the USD pitching staff owns an ERA of 5.92.
