JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Four members of the IUPUI men's golf team concluded play at the Bulldog Florida Invitational on Thursday (Mar. 15), headlined by the play of sophomore Rob van de Vin. The Netherlands-native finished the 36-hole tournament at 155 (78-77) and tied for 17th among the 42-player field.

"Rob didn't play that well - he did okay," IUPUI head coach John Andrews said. "I'd give him a 'C'. Considering he's in new surroundings and everything, he did a good job down here."

IUPUI only entered four individuals in the event with the Jaguars' four top players sitting out the tournament.

Freshman Santiago Ruiz came in at 162 (82-80) and senior Philip Wirkkala closed at 181 (91-90). Redshirt freshman Franky Kao made his collegiate debut at 182 (101-81).

"Frank played a little better today but I know he didn't finish great," Andrews said. "It was a step in the right direction for him.

"Phil didn't play well at all but he's got to knock the rust off. He knows that. It wasn't unexpected for him to come down here and not play his best golf. He's working hard and is fighting for a spot in the lineup."

Butler, who hosted the event, won the six-team tournament with a team score of 587 (296-291) while Bulldog Andrew Wegeng earned medalist honors at 5-under 139 (69-70).

IUPUI will return to action on Mar. 26-27 when the Jaguars participate in the Butler Spring Invitational at Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Ind..
