SOFTBALL CLOSES HOMESTAND THIS WEEKEND AGAINST BISON

Jags host North Dakota State for Friday doubleheader and close the series on Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI softball team concludes its seven-game homestand this weekend when it hosts North Dakota State in a three-game Summit League series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, March 16, at 4 p.m.

The series will conclude on Saturday, March 17, at Noon.

North Dakota State is coming off a mid-week doubleheader sweep over UT-Arlington upping their overall record to 16-11. This weekend marks the first conference series for the Bison.

NDSU is led offensively by Taylor Mortensen, who boasts a .329 average and ranks second on the team in home runs and RBIs with two and 15, respectively. Amanda Grable is the squad's leader in home runs and RBIs with three round-trippers and 17 RBI.

In the circle, NDSU has used just two pitchers this season in Whitney Johnson and Krista Menke and the duo has combined for a 2.46 ERA. More impressively the Johnson-Menke combination has totaled 172 strikeouts, 113 of which coming from Johnson, compared to 84 walks in 179.1 innings of work.

During IUPUI's current homestand, Jessica Lam and Ashley Seering are leading the way offensively batting .429 and .400, respectively, with Seering collecting a team-high six hits and six runs. Despite hitting .176, Jenny Royse has been the leading run-producer driving in four runs.

Defensively, the Jags team ERA has slightly escalated in the last five games rising to 3.78.
