INDIANAPOLIS – Following a week away from competition, the IUPUI men’s tennis team hits the court for a pair of matches this weekend when it travels to Saint Louis and No. 30 Notre Dame on Saturday, Feb. 11 and Sunday, Feb. 12, respectively.
Following a season-opening win against SIU-Edwardsville, the Jags have lost four consecutive matches against the likes of No. 7 Kentucky, No. 53 Michigan State, Marquette, and Ball State.
“We face a couple of tough match ups again this weekend starting with Saint Louis and ending with #30 Notre Dame,” said head coach
Brandon Currie. “As a team, we are continuing to shuffle our lineup around to give different guys an opportunity to step up.”
The Jags have yet to capture the coveted doubles point in its five matches thus far and Currie believes that in the week away from competition that the squad worked hard on getting off to a good start.
“We’ve done a lot of work on our doubles and made a few changes with partners, and guys seem pretty confident about their current level of play,” Currie said. “The doubles point plays a huge role in the outcome of matches, and provides a spark for singles. I look for us to come out with a ton of energy and a high level of focus. We are excited about our opportunity to play two talented teams this weekend.”
Saint Louis comes into the week with a 1-1 record and will host Summit League foe Western Illinois on Friday, Feb. 10, before welcoming the Jaguars to the Sunset Tennis Center. Saturday’s match is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
Notre Dame is off to a 6-3 start with all three of its losses coming to teams ranked in the Top 30. The Fighting Irish open their weekend against Wisconsin on Friday, Feb. 10, before taking on nationally-ranked Kentucky at Noon ET on Sunday, Feb. 12. Then it will be IUPUI’s turn to take on Notre Dame at 6 p.m.ET on Sunday.
