KETTERING, Ohio - The group of IUPUI reserve women's golfers capped play at the Dayton Fall Invitational at NCR North on Tuesday (Oct. 23), carding a final round 321 to place 13th of 17 schools. Sophomore
Kelli Witt tied for 39th overall at 159 (79-80) while classmate
Lauren Mains was IUPUI's low scorer on Tuesday at 77.
Mains, a native of Ohio, finished the tournament tied for 47th at 161 (84-77). A third sophomore,
Carolyn Kupchik, came in at 163 (84-79). All three are in the hunt, along with
Maria Krempp, for the Jaguars' No. 5 spot in the lineup heading into the spring semester.
"Having that competition within the team is helping them all get better," assistant coach
Danielle Wolter said. "They're all fighting for playing time and they're all having to step up their game.
"(As a team) we were 10 shots better today, which was good. I think they were a little more comfortable with the course and played with a little more confidence today."
Olivia Kuss finished at 169 (84-85) and freshman
Karisa Stojkovich shot 202 (93-109) in her first collegiate golf tournament.
Detroit won the tournament at 588 and Valparaiso was second at 592. Ohio (605), Oakland (606) and IPFW (609) rounded out the top five teams among the 17-team field.
Valpo's Kelly Voigt earned medalist honors at 3-under 139 and Ohio's Angela Codian was second at 141.
Wolter and the IUPUI coaching staff look forward to continuing to improve during the winter months.
"Everyone has individual things they can work on, whether it's swing mechanics or just putting," Wolter said. "If they just putt everyday, even for just 10 minutes, that's so important to their games. Me, Colby (Huffman) and John (Andrews) are more than willing to watch their swing and help them get better."
The spring tournament dates will be announced in the coming weeks on IUPUIJags.com.
