Box Score
CHICAGO - Freshman Nikki Thomas' complete game one-hitter and Hannah Croucher's game-winning single in the ninth helped the Jaguars edge Loyola 1-0 in extra innings on Tuesday afternoon. Thomas carried a no-hitter two outs deep into the ninth inning before allowing a bunt single.
International tiebreaker rules put freshman Angela Bartucci on second base to start the ninth to set the stage for Croucher. The Carmel-native's single brought Bartucci around to score, giving IUPUI (14-30) a 1-0 lead.
Thomas fired a gem and was able to overcome poor defense to pick up her sixth win of the season. She overcame four IUPUI errors and stranded 11 Loyola runners. She stranded multiple runners in the first second, fourth, sixth and ninth innings, including ending the game with runners on second and third.
Thomas finished with eight punchouts, upping her single-season school record total to 158.
Loyola's Stevie Bradich accounted for the hosts only hit when she reached on a bunt in the ninth. Thomas threw wildly to first, allowing the lead runner to scramble from first to third. Later, Bradich swiped second but the game ended when the Southport-native got Olivia Bell to foul out to first base.
Croucher had two of IUPUI's three hits and freshman Julie Love also reached via a base hit.
Game two of Tuesday's doubleheader was canceled due to cold weather conditions. Next up, the Jaguars will travel to IPFW for the final three games of the season this weekend.
