FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IUPUI men's tennis team's 2010-11 season came to a close on Saturday afternoon as the Jaguars dropped a hard fought 4-2 decision to top-seeded UMKC in The Summit League championship match at Pine Ridge Racquet & Fitness Club.

UMKC became the first No. 1 seed to win the tournament since 2007. It was just IUPUI's third-ever title match appearance the program's first runner-up finish since 2004.

The 'Roos earned the victory by winning the doubles point and ultimately winning singles matches at the Nos. 1, 2 and 5 spots.

UMKC struck first, fending off the Jaguars for the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.

In singles play, Summit League Player of the Year Niko Hasandedic pushed UMKC's lead out to 2-0, making relatively quick work of Ivan Mojsejev with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Sophomore Joel Modesitt made did similar work at the No. 4 slot, bettering Abdulrahman Alawadhi 6-4, 6-2 to make it 2-1.

UMKC ultimately took control with Gustavo Guerin's win at No. 5 over Bren Vasalakis, 6-2, 6-1. Having won the first set at both No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

Rookie Chase Emerson extended the match with 7-5, 6-2 win over Cameron Schoenhofer at No. 6, including a late service break after he was broken at 4-1. The win moved Emerson's singles record to 2-0 in his first Summit League Tournament. 

However, UMKC captured the match when Grant Fleming finished off Nick Volz at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2. 

The Jags finished the season with an overall record of 9-16, a three-win improvement from the 2010 season.
