OMAHA. - The IUPUI softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against North Dakota State 4-1 and 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Game One -Â Â (Box Score)
The IUPUI softball team fell behind early again in a 4-1 loss in game two of a three game series against North Dakota State.
Chelsie Hale's power provided the only Jaguar run. Her seventh home run gave her the team lead and got the Jaguars within three at 4-1.
But, the Bison (15-21, 5-4 Summit) got on the board early when Rivera scored after stealing throw on a wild throw by catcher Julie Love in the first inning.
They added two more on a home run by Mortensen, her second of the series. Tamayo's double pushed across the second earned run of the game and gave the Bison a 4-0 lead.
IUPUI managed just three hits against Bison pitching. Randi Parks picked up the win going four innings giving up just one run and three hits. Last night's starter Whitney Johnson picked up the save pitching three hitless innings while striking out five.
Angela Bartucci and Brandi Lawson had the other two Jaguar hits.
Game Two - Box Score
IUPUI (10-21, 5-7 Summit) missed several offensive opportunities. The Jaguars left two runners on in the fourth and sixth innings.
Bison starting pitcher Johnson walked two straight batters in the fourth before getting Leah Prewitt on a fielder's choice.
In the sixth inning, Hale and freshman Brandi Lawson walked chasing Johnson from the game. But, game one winner Parks got Bartucci to bounce in to a double play.
However, Bartucci's third home run of the season in the second inning tied the game at one. Her homer accounted for the only IUPUI run.
The Bison took the lead back in the third inning on Rivera's RBI single. Tamayo's sacrifice fly gave the Bison a 3-1 lead that they never relinquished.
