PRIMM, Nev. - The IUPUI men's golf team finished day one of The Summit League Championships with a team score of 589 (297-292) and finds itself six shots behind leader UMKC, which posted a 583 in Monday's two rounds of action. Play will conclude with Tuesday's final round, set to tee off at 10:00 a.m. Eastern.

Senior Michael Powell led the way on Monday, finishing with a 3-under 141 (72-69) to enter the final round in second place. After an even-par 72 in the first round, the Kokomo-native started round number two hot. After an early bogey, he had a five hole stretch of birdie-par-birdie-par-eagle to get him to 3-under. He maintained that score with two birdies and two bogeys to accompany seven pars over the final 11 holes. The Second Team All-Summit League performer is two shots back of tournament leader Will Robson of UMKC.

IUPUI's two other All-Summit League honorees, Michael Davan and Ben Engle are tied for sixth through 36 holes at 3-over 147. Davan (75-72) had seven birdies on Monday while Engle carded five birdies and eagled the par-5, 530-yard No. 7 in both of his rounds. Engle (73-74) struggled in his final nine holes of the day though, coming in at 41 after a 33 on the front nine.

Freshman Juan Diego Plasencia is tied for 35th at 156 (77-79) and senior Ben Moster is tied for 41st at 161 (84-77). For Moster, two doubles and a triple derailed his opening round, however he rebounded late in his second round to provide a solid No. 4 score.

UMKC was in fourth-place after the opening round, but posted an impressive 280 in round two to take the lead. The Jaguars led the field for a decent chunk of round two, but were overtaken by the 'Roos over the final five holes. Southern Utah, which led after one round, is presently third at 591 and Western Illinois is fourth at 597.

Robson and Powell were the lone players under par among the 50-player field. Oakland's Michael Coriasso is third at 145 (+1)
