SOFTBALL SET TO TAKE ON INDIANA STATE

TERRE HAUTE - The IUPUI softball team returns to action with a doubleheader at Indiana State on Wednesday.

IUPUI (10-23, 5-7 Summit) last played a doubleheader against Purdue six days ago. The Jaguars dropped game one 11-1 and game two 18-5. The losses increase IUPUI's losing streak to eight games.

A pair of freshmen (Angela Bartucci and Brandi Lawson) have led the offensive attack thus far. Lawson leads the team hitting .308 and Barucci is next batting .294. The pair have combined for seven home runs with Lawson cracking four and Bartucci hitting three.

Senior Chelsie Hale has a team-high seven home runs while freshman Alicia Brewer has six. Brewer leads the squad with 19 RBI while freshman Julie Love is second with 16.

Southport native Nikki Thomas has pitched the majority of the innings for the Jaguars. She has started 12 games and is 4-8 with a 4.46 ERA. Thomas has fanned 112 batters thus far, 28 short of senior Samantha Bumbaugh's record set in 2010.

Indiana State (12-19, 3-8 Missouri Valley)

The Sycamores come in to the series off of a series loss against Evansville this past weekend. Indiana State split a doubleheader on Friday and lost a 14-4 five-inning decision in the finale.

Offense

Alex Baumgart leads the Sycamores hitting .333 while Bailey Wittenauer is hitting .316 and Kim Pierce is at .306. Wittenauer has supplied a lot of the power with team-highs in home runs (4) and RBI (26).

Pitching

Kristen Felker has started 11 games for the Sycamores. She has a 7-6 record and sports a 2.79 ERA. Felker has fanned 60 in 77.2 innings. Sara Evans has made eight starts and is 2-5 with a 5.34 ERA.

Lindsey Beisser has the team's best ERA at 1.63 but has only made five starts.
