INDIANAPOLIS  - After a split with Dayton, the IUPUI softball team returns to Summit League action on Friday afternoon against Oakland. The Jaguars will play a doubleheader beginning at 4 pm on Friday and conclude the series with a single game on Saturday set to begin at noon.

IUPUI (7-11, 2-1 Summit) won the first game in Dayton behind Nikki Thomas’ complete game shutout. The freshman was in complete control fanning 11 hitters. It was her third win of the season against five losses. She now boasts a 2.59 ERA. Fellow freshman, Brandi Lawson was a perfect 3-for-3 in the game including a home run.

The Flyers rebounded in game two to salvage a split.  IUPUI held a 3-2 lead in the fifth, but the Flyers pushed three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good.

Offensively, Lawson leads the Jaguars in average and RBIs. She is hitting a whopping .421 and has knocked in 12.  Chelsie Hale leads the team with four home runs and has a .342 average.

After struggling in the early going, infielder Angela Bartucci has raised her average up to .296.

Oakland (4-13, 0-3 Summit)
The Golden Grizzlies have struggled in the early going. They opened their Summit League slate last weekend and were swept by Western Illinois. They fell 5-1, 12-1 and lost a hard-fought 5-4 decision in ten innings. The sweep extended the team’s losing streak to seven games.

Top Hitter – Erin Galloway is leading the Golden Grizzlies with a .358 batting average. Kylie Schalz has 13 RBI to top the squad. Abbie Richardson (.364) has a higher batting average than Galloway (.358) but has only started eight games.

Top Pitcher – Alison Tansel and Brittany Doyle have done the bulk of the pitching between the two of them. The pair has combined for 13 of the 17 starts. Tansel is 1-5 with a 3.34 ERA while Doyle is 2-4 with a 4.01 ERA.
