INDIANAPOLIS - After a long layoff from the fall season, the IUPUI Jaguars softball team opens its season on February 12th at the Belmont Tournament to be held in Franklin, Tenn.
The team will play a pair of doubleheaders on the 12th and 13th with Austin Peay (12:15 pm) and Belmont (3 pm) on the agenda for day one. On day two, the Jaguars will meet Wright State (10 am) and Belmont (3 pm).
Austin Peay is coming off an eighth-place finish in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2009-10 and will return nine players. The Jaguars split a pair of games with the Governors last season. Austin Peay won the first game 7-0 and IUPUI avenged its loss with a 6-1 win two days later. The Governors were picked to finish 10th in the OVC's preseason poll.
Wright State is the reigning champion of the Horizon League softball tournament. The Raiders have taken home the title three of the last four seasons and, with 12 returners including leading hitter China Frost, should prove to be a tough matchup for the Jaguars.
Belmont has ten returners and managed 10 wins in 2010. Junior Cassie Bollin returns as the Bruins' leading hitter.
