CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The IUPUI softball team lost to Tennessee Chattanooga 9-1 in five innings and lost a 6-0 decision to Tennessee-Martin at the Frost Classic on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, the Jaguars missed several opportunities with runners in scoring position.
In the third inning, Lady Mocs starting pitcher Nikki Waters walked the bases loaded before being taken out in favor of Kandace Irwin. Hannah Croucher hit a ground ball to the second baseman who stepped on the bag to end the inning.
IUPUI threatened again in the fourth inning, loading the bases with one out. Chelsie Hale beat out a ground ball then Brandi Lawson followed with an infield single. After Tori Magner reached on a fielder's choice, Brewer hit a ball deep in the hole which the shortstop stuck in her pocket.
With the bases loaded, Jessica Lam hit the ball back to Irwin. She fielded the ball, fired home and the catcher threw to first to complete the inning-ending double play.
IUPUI (4-8) finally got on the board in the fifth inning. Nikki Thomas singled to start the frame and advanced to third on Julie Love's bullet to right field. After a pass ball sent Love to second, Leah Prewitt hit a ground ball to third and was thrown out on the play. Thomas broke for the plate after the ball was thrown and beat the throw.

With Love still on third, Croucher hit a fly ball to left field which looked like a sacrifice fly. However, the Lady Mocs appealed the play and Love was called out for leaving early.
The Lady Mocs scored early and often. Samantha Bumbaugh retired the first two hitters, but the Mocs had a two-out rally to take the early lead. Michelle Buzzard barely missed a home run off the right field fence and ended up at second base. Tiffany Baker blasted the first pitch from Bumbaugh over the left-center field fence to put the Mocs up 2-0 in the first.
Della Harrison's home run to start the second inning made it 3-0. Calcaterra lifted Bumbaugh in favor of senior
Amy Raker, who gave up no earned runs. The Mocs scored their fourth run on a sacrifice fly by Lindsey Stiles. Sara Poteat's two-out single put the Lady Mocs up five after two innings.
Tennessee-Chattanooga added two more in the third and won the game in the fifth on a two-run single by Poteat.
Bumbaugh (2-3) took the loss in the circle.
In game two, Tennessee-Martin's starting pitcher Chelsea Jones gave IUPUI fits. Love and Prewitt had the only two Jaguar hits. They both came with two outs in the seventh inning.
On top of the tough pitching, IUPUI had defensive troubles. They committed five errors leading to four unearned runs.
Thomas struck out Leah Taylor to begin the game, but she reached on an error by the first baseman Lawson. Taylor stole second and took third after the throw to second base ricocheted off of her leg. She scored on a wild pitch.
Amanda Brandenburg walked, stole second and scored on a single to center by Kate Vanderham. The Skyhawks tacked on two more in the fourth. Erica Duke homered to start the frame. Taylor was hit by a pitch then stole second and third on consecutive pitches. She scored on Jordan Garrett's sacrifice fly.
The Skyhawks tacked on two more unearned runs in the fifth inning.
Thomas (1-3) took the loss giving up two earned runs in four innings of work.
IUPUI will finish the tournament on Sunday at 11 am. against Northern Iowa.
