2/25/2011 9:13:01 PM

Box Score (Tennessee Tech) -- Box Score (Northwestern St.)

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The IUPUI softball team dropped both games at the Frost Classic on Friday losing 7-0 to Tennessee Tech and 8-4 against Northwestern St.

Holly Thomas stifled the Jaguars. She gave up just one hit, a single to Leah Prewitt in the seventh inning. Two other Jaguars reached on walks while Julie Love was hit by a pitch.

Freshman Nikki Thomas (1-2) started in the circle for the Jaguars. She was able to battle through trouble until Tennessee Tech touched her up for six runs in the fifth inning. After the first two batters singled, Lacie Coquerille blasted a three-run home run to left field. Brooke Basten's two-run single gave Tennessee Tech a six-run lead and Holly Thomas made it hold.

After not getting a hit in game one, the Jaguars started off better offensively. Nikki Thomas with one out in the first inning and Julie Love drove her home with a single to left.

IUPUI's lead didn't last long. The first two batters reached base against starting pitcher Jocelyn Oppenhuis and Kylie Roos made her pay with a three-run homer just over the left field fence. Samantha Bumbaugh relieved Oppenhuis and limited the damage in the first.

But, Northwestern St. kept pouring it on scoring one in the second and two in both the third and fourth innings. IUPUI (4-6) got one back in the fifth inning. Hannah Croucher and Alicia Brewer singled to start the frame.

Tori Magner hit a sharp ground ball to the shortstop who fired to the third baseman for the force out. The third baseman tried to throw behind Magner at first and threw the ball away. Brewer came around to score.

Brewer's RBI-single in the seventh made it 8-3 and scored the team's fourth and final run of the game on the throw to second as Magner was caught stealing.

IUPUI will return to action on Saturday to play against Tennessee-Chattanooga (noon) and Tennessee-Martin (2:30 pm).
