EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The SIU-Edwardsville drilled three homers that included a pivotal grand slam on its way to a softball doubleheader sweep over the Jaguars at Cougar Field on Tuesday, 9-3 and 8-0 in six innings. Junior Chelsie Hale paced the IUPUI attack offensively, going 4-for-6 in the two games while senior Mia Ettl cracked her fifth homerun of the season in game one.

IUPUI (7-28) built a 3-1 lead over the first three innings of the opener with the first coming when Leah Prewitt doubled and scampered home on a defensive error charged to SIUE's Taylor Tooley. In the third inning, Ettl launched a one-out solo homer to make it 2-1 and the Jags plated their third run when Kelsey Rupert singled, stole second and scored on Amy Raker's single to center.

SIUE (22-16) strung together some two-out magic in the fourth against IUPUI starter Samantha Bumbaugh to take the lead for good though. Kasey Schlafke and Tooley both singled to left and Samantha Stanicek loaded the bases when she was hit by a pitch. Chaleen Rumpf promptly unloaded the bases with a grand slam, giving the Cougars a 5-3 advantage.

The hosts tacked on four more in the sixth inning against freshman Nicole Natter, keyed by Megan Murphy's two-run triple to the gap in right-center. Murphy went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI and Tooley also scored a pair of runs.

Ettl went 2-for-4 and Rupert went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases from the No. 2 spot in the batting order.

Erika Taylor (16-10) got the win as she struck out three in the complete game effort. Bumbaugh (1-11) game up five earned runs before handing the ball over to Natter in the fifth. The left-handed reliever gave up the other four out of the bullpen.

Game two saw SIUE score three times against Raker in the bottom of the second inning and never look back in an easy 8-0 victory. Leading 3-0, Stanicek and Breanna Fulginiti led off the fourth with back-to-back homers, making it 5-0. Bumbaugh came on in relief, but didn't fare much better as the Cougars immediately roughed her up for three hits and two more runs in the fourth.

The game ended in the sixth when Murphy singled and wheeled home on Lauren Zembruski's double down the rightfield foul line.

SIUE outhit the Jaguars 12-6 despite Hale going 3-for-3 for the Jags. Ali Downing (6-6) struck out eight in the complete game victory and Raker (3-3) was hit with the defeat.

IUPUI returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Indiana State at the on-campus complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.. All home games are free and open to the public.
