BROOKINGS, S.D. - The South Dakota State softball team rapped out 24 hits in a doubleheader sweep of the Jaguars on Saturday, winning game one 6-4 and game two 9-5. Both Alicia Hayes and Leah Prewitt had four hits each for the Jaguars.

In game one, IUPUI crawled out of a 3-0 hole, but saw the host Jackrabbits score three more after the game was tied to ultimately secure a 6-4 win. The bulk of IUPUI's offense came in the fifth inning when the Jaguars batted around and plated three runs on just one hit.

Hayes led off with a single and Mia Ettl and Amy Raker loaded the bases with back-to-back walks. Junior Chelsie Hale got a bruise and an RBI when she was hit by a pitch, forcing a run home. Prewitt followed with a run scoring fielder's choice and the final run scored when Laura Wilcox reached on an error.

SDSU (14-26, 6-5 Summit) took the lead in the bottom half, scoring an unearned run and scored two more in the sixth against sophomore starter Samantha Bumbaugh

IUPUI (10-32, 7-10) rallied in the seventh when Raker led off with a single and motored around to third on Prewitt's double to the gap in right-center. Wilcox made it 6-4 with a sacrifice fly, but SDSU's Pam Nicholson (3-12) fanned Sydney Miller to end it.

Nicholson struck out seven in the complete game victory. Bumbaugh (2-14) was hung with the loss as she struck out five in the complete game effort. Hayes was 3-for-4 from the No. 2 spot in the batting order and Raker went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Game two saw the hosts jump out to an 8-0 lead after three innings on its way to a 9-5 win.

IUPUI took advantage of three SDSU errors in the fourth inning to score four runs, aided by Hayes' RBI double. Hayes later scored on Prewitt's run scoring single as three of the Jaguars' runs were unearned.

The Jags tacked on another run in the seventh as both Prewitt and Wilcox doubled, but SDSU's Kori Seidlitz avoided further damage as Hale grounded out to end it. Seidlitz was strong, fanning nine Jaguars in the win. Freshman Nicole Natter was sluggish in defeat as she failed to get out of the third inning.

Prewitt led the IUPUI offense, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Hale and Wilcox also had two hits each.

IUPUI and South Dakota State will conclude the three-game series tomorrow with a noon first pitch.
