VALPARAISO, Ind. - Coming off back-to-back walk-off victories over the weekend, the IUPUI softball team was dealt a taste of its own medicine as host Valparaiso got a game one walk-off hit on its way to a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday evening. The Crusaders took game one by a 2-1 score before completing the sweep with a 4-0 win in game two.

In game one, VU's Alex Lagesse outdueled IUPUI starter Samantha Bumbaugh for the win, despite the sophomore righty's career-high 13 punchouts. Valpo (26-8) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Lisa DeBruzzi homered to left after the first two batters had gone down on strikes. IUPUI (10-30) responded in the sixth as senior Mia Ettl led off the inning with a double and later scored on Amy Raker's opposite field double.

The hosts scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh when Tori Brown led off with a double and her pinch-runner came home on Kelsey Phalen's single to center.

Freshman Kelsey Rupert went 2-for-3 with a stolen base for the Jaguars. Bumbaugh (2-13) gave up two runs in 6.2 innings and recorded the 13 strikeouts against just two walks. Lagesse (11-3) fanned eight in the complete game victory.

In the nightcap, Valpo scored a run in the second inning off Raker and two more in bottom of the fourth en route to an easy 4-0 victory. VU's Sam McGee and Shaleigh Jansen combined on a three-hit shutout as the Jaguars were unable to get a runner into scoring position until the top of the seventh inning.

After Ettl struck out to open the seventh, sophomore Leah Prewitt reached on a fielding error and was lifted for pinch-runner Sydney Miller. Raker struck out, but Chelsie Hale kept the Jaguars alive with an infield hit. Yet Jansen struck out Laura Wilcox to end it.

McGee (10-2) fanned nine in six innings work in the win. Raker (3-4) gave up three runs (two earned) before handing the ball over to freshman Nicole Natter in the fourth. The duo combined to strike out three and walk one.

Rupert was 2-for-3 from the leadoff spot in the Jaguars' batting order.

IUPUI will return to action this weekend when it heads to Brookings, S.D. to take on South Dakota State in a three-game Summit League series. Game one is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. EST on Friday.
