INDIANAPOLIS - Junior Amy Raker flared a bases loaded single to right one-out deep in the bottom of the eighth inning to send the IUPUI softball team to a 6-5 Summit League victory over Southern Utah on Saturday afternoon. The win gave the Jaguars its first series sweep over a league foe since April 2007.

IUPUI (10-28, 7-8 Summit) pounded out 14 hits and had five players with multi-hit games in the victory.

After yielding two runs in the top of the seventh, IUPUI came off the mat in the bottom half to force the extra inning. Sophomore Leah Prewitt started the rally with a bloop single to left and later advanced to second when Laura Wilcox drew a one-out walk. Freshman Sydney Miller then pulled a double just inside the rightfield foul line, putting the potential game-winning run on third base. However, SUU reliever Kristina Brooks got an infield pop out and ground out to keep the game going.

IUPUI freshman Nicole Natter tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning, setting the table for win in the bottom half.

Freshman Kelsey Rupert led off with a solid single in the hole and moved to second when Mia Ettl dropped a picturesque bunt for a hit. Junior Chelsie Hale advanced both runners with her second sacrifice bunt of the game and the bases were loaded when Brooks' first pitch to Prewitt hit her in the leg. With the infield drawn in, Raker lined a 1-1 pitch into rightfield for her second RBI of the game.

Prewitt was 3-for-4 with a run scored and Rupert, Ettl, Raker and Joy Perry added two hits each.

Perry had an RBI single in the second that scored Laura Wilcox to open the game's scoring against SUU (8-30, 4-11) starter Bubba Kearns. IUPUI made it 2-0 in the bottom of the third when Ettl was plunked, moved to second on Hale's first sac bunt and later scored on a Raker sac fly to right.

After SUU tied the game in the top of the fourth, IUPUI immediately answered when Garrison crushed her first career homerun over the centerfield fence.

Again SUU  tied the game in the fifth, but IUPUI countered in the sixth by continuing to manufacture runs. This time, Perry connected on a double to left and moved to third when Rupert singled back up the middle. Ettl plated the run with a ground out to second base, putting IUPUI back on top 4-3.

Aly Daniels led the SUU offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Natter (4-9) got the win in relief as she allowed three runs in 4.2 innings work. The lefty fanned four and walked one to earn her second straight victory. Sophomore Samantha Bumbaugh recorded five of her 10 outs via strikeout before departing in the fourth.

Brooks (2-8) took the loss in relief for the Thunderbirds, giving up a run in her inning of work.

IUPUI will return to action on Tuesday when it heads up I-65 to take on former league foe Valparaiso. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m..
