INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI softball team will open its 2010 home slate on Saturday when it plays host to Western Illinois in Summit League action, beginning at noon. The three-game series will open Summit League play for both teams. 

IUPUI (3-5, 0-0 Summit) hasn't played in two weeks when it dropped two out of three at Elon over that weekend. Freshman Kelsey Rupert is leading the IUPUI offense, batting .429 in limited action and fellow rookie Alicia Garrison has knocked in a team-high five runs through eight games. 

In the circle, junior Amy Raker has gotten out to a strong start, going 2-0 with a 0.58 earned run average in her five appearances. Despite fanning just six batters in 12 innings, she's allowed only one earned run, primarily out of the bullpen. 

Western Illinois (9-5, 0-0) is led offensively by Lauren Furgala, who's batting .455 in 14 starts. As a team, WIU has outscored its opponents 55-26 this season and has a team batting average of .305. The pitching staff has a combined ERA of 1.70, headlined by Kamren Ferguson's 1.84 mark in seven starts.
