INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's tennis team picked up their first win of the spring season on Saturday, taking a tight 5-2 win over Valparaiso in the evening portion of their doubleheader.  The Jaguars fell to Bradley by the same score earlier in the day.

IUPUI (1-6) was led by Daniel Klingenberg and Jorge Yunes, each of whom went 2-0 in singles play in the matches.  Klingenberger started his morning with a straight set win at No. 2, defeating Bradley's Callen Fraychineaud, 6-4, 6-4.

The sophomore improved his spring record to 2-5 with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) win over Valparaiso's Kyle Stump in the evening session.

Yunes did likewise, dispatching of the Braves' Richard Robertson, 6-3, 7-5, in the morning; the senior rallied to take out Valpo's Kevin DeHerrera at No. 5 in the nightcap, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Deon Shafer won the first spring match of his career at No. 1 against the Crusaders, picking up a key point for the Jaguars with a 6-1, 7-6(7) win, while Nick Volz and Joel Modesitt each took pivotal matches for IUPUI as well.

Modesitt rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6, while Volz captured a tense 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 4.

The Jaguars will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 13, when they head to Toledo, Ohio, to meet the University of Toledo.  The matches will start at 4:00 p.m..
