NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Able to be outside for the first time all spring, the IUPUI softball team opened up with a pair of losses at the Play It Again Sports APSU Classic on Friday afternoon. Northern Iowa defeated the Jaguars 5-0 early in the day before host Austin Peay took a 7-0 victory in the nightcap.

The Jaguars threatened in the second inning when junior Amy Raker bounced a two-out single through the right side, pushing pinch runner Keshia Head to third. However, UNI starter Jen Larsen (3-0) worked out of the jam by getting IUPUI senior Laura Wilcox to ground out.

The Panthers (5-1) then took the lead in the bottom of the second on solo homers from both Livi Abney and Kim Wachholder and played add-on in the fifth with three runs against sophomore starter Samantha Bumbaugh

IUPUI got two hits each from Breanna Shannon, Leah Prewitt and Raker while Wachholder was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for UNI.

Bumbaugh (0-1) yielded two runs in three innings work in the loss while Larsen struck out two and walked one in the shutout.

In game two, APSU (1-1) came out hot, scoring seven runs in the first three frames in an easy 7-0 win. The Jags managed just three hits against the Governors' Morgan Brewer, who struck out six in her first triumph of the season.

IUPUI loaded the bases in the second when Alicia Hayes reached with an infield single, Alicia Garrison drew a walk and Bumbaugh got on base on an error. However, Wilcox flied out to right to end the threat.
