WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The IUPUI men's golf team sits in fourth of 14 teams after an opening round 301 at the Joe Agee Invitational being played at the par-71, 6,743-yard Colonial Heritage Golf Club. The tournament is scheduled to conclude with 18 holes on Sunday, beginning at 8:00 a.m..

Host William & Mary leads the field at 290 while Old Dominion is second at 294. Loyola (Md.) is third at 295 with the Jags in fourth. Four schools trail IUPUI by three shots or less.

The Jaguars were able to climb back to fourth after what was another slow start.

"We've already made a move," IUPUI Head Coach John Andrews said. "I've got to figure out how to get them out of the gates a little better. That's my job.

"We're not going to win by shooting 301. I'm guessing it'll take at least a 285 to win it."

Junior Ben Engle led the Jaguars with a one-over 72 and is tied for fourth among the 71-player field. Behind him, both junior Michael Powell and freshman Michael Balzer carded 76's and are tied for 23rd overall.

"Engle's pretty good," Andrews said. "The putter was a little better for him on the back (nine). He's been very aggressive with his play and he's starting to see the results of that. By nature, he's a little more conservative with his play, but we've definitely worked on that.

"After a quad, Powell had 13 pars in a row. I'd say that Balzer was really consistent out there. He was really the only consistent Jag on the golf course."

Junior Michael Davan rounded out the scoring four at 77 and freshman Juan Diego Plasencia capped the lineup with a 78.

William & Mary's Jeremy Wells leads the field after a first round 67.

"Our job is to go out tomorrow and win the tournament," Andrews said. "I've got a group of guys that understand that."
