INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Nate Ohmer netted his first goal of the year in the 96th minute as the men's soccer team claimed a 2-1 non-conference, overtime win over Cleveland State at Kuntz Stadium on a picturesque Sunday afternoon. Freshman Jeff Keyler also scored in the win as the Jaguars won their second straight overtime affair over the weekend.

"He has a knack for the dramatic goals," Franklin said. "We felt very confident with the way we approached overtime up at Fort Wayne and wanted to do the same thing today. They stayed with three players up top, one of which was their starting center back. So we knew they had a reserve back there and we wanted to go at them."

On the game-winner, Ohmer was able to steal possession just inside the 18-yard box before rolling a shot in front of CSU goalkeeper Brad Stuver for the win.

"I just saw the back post was wide open," Ohmer said. "Perez (Agaba) was calling for the ball, but I looked up and saw the back post and just slid it through."

IUPUI (7-6) had taken the lead in the 58th minute on Keyler's team-high fifth goal of the that began with a Yogi Snider free kick. Snider put the ball in play to Keyler, who skied above the crowd and redirected a header into the upper right corner of the net, leaving Stuver without a play on the ball.

The Jaguars seemingly had the win in hand and were playing the clock, as opposed to the opponent, when Cleveland State (6-9) netted the game-tying goal. A foul down near the endline proved to be costly when John Wargo played the short restart to the near post where Cameron Eisses headed a shot past IUPUI sophomore goalie Alex Mannen with just 2:09 left in regulation.

CSU nearly won it in regulation too when Aaron Adkins leaked out on a breakaway against Mannen with less than a minute to play. Freshman John Jordan ran down the play and helped force Adkins to push his shot wide right from about 20 yards out.

IUPUI had a similar breakaway to start the overtime period when Perez Agaba got behind the Vikings' defense. However, his drive sailed just high of the crossbar in the 91st minute.

"If I was going to have anybody in that situation, it would be him," Franklin said. "It was surprising that he tried to go high with it. I thought he'd end it there."

However, Agaba's miss later led to Ohmer's winner. For the Indianapolis-native, it was his seventh career goal and third career game-winner.

"Nate is one of those guys - he's a digger. He just keeps digging away at things," Franklin said. "He's been kind of in a mini slump so for him to play as impressive as a first half as he did, really helped his confidence.

"That helps us. That gives us that midfielder we need."

CSU outshot the Jaguars 15-14 and had seven corner kicks to IUPUI's three. Adkins and Keyler tied for game-high honors with four shot attempts each. Mannen made four saves to improve to 3-0 in goal on the season and Stuver made two saves in the loss.

Mannen made a diving one-handed stop of a Jeff Baker attempt in the 12th minute to keep the game scoreless. He was also helped out by the left post in the 47th minute when Matt McWilson had a ground ball shot hit squarely off the back stanchion and back onto the field of play.

"We really limited them to three quality attempts," Franklin said. "Credit Cleveland State, they're organized and they do things very well from a distribution standpoint. Today, we had a difference maker and had a kid that stepped his game up.

"That was the game."

IUPUI will return to action on Wednesday when it takes on city rival Butler at the Butler Bowl at 4:00 p.m.. The Bulldogs are the last remaining unbeaten and untied team in Division I soccer and were ranked No. 9 nationally this week.
