WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The IUPUI men's golf team put together an improved round on Sunday at the Joe Agee Invitational and leapfrogged one team on its way to a third-place finish at the 14-team event. The tournament, which was hosted by William & Mary and played at the par-71 Colonial Heritage Golf Club, saw IUPUI turn in a 36-hole 590 (301-289).

Old Dominion won the event at 578 and host William & Mary was second at 582. The Jaguars edged Loyola (Md.) by one stroke to take third place. The Jaguars' 590 was the second lowest 36-hole score in school history, falling 12 shot shy of the school record.

Junior Ben Engle and freshman Juan Diego Plasencia keyed the IUPUI lineup on Sunday, with both carding one-under 70's in the final round. Engle finished his tournament at an even par 142 (72-70) and tied for third among the 71 player field. He recorded the only eagle during the two-day event when he tamed the 541-yard, par-five 15th on Sunday.

Plasencia closed at 148 (78-70) to tie for 13th and fellow rookie Michael Balzer closed at 150 (76-74) in his first career lineup appearance. Junior Michael Davan came in at 152 (77-75) and classmate Michael Powell rounded out the quintet at 158 (76-82).

ODU's James Brockington and Towson's Nyasha Mauchaza tied for medalist honors at 141, however Brockington was awarded the victory because Mauchaza and his teammates had departed before the potential playoff.

IUPUI will return to action on Oct. 18-19 when the Jaguars will take part in the Dayton Fall Invitational at the NCR South Course in Kettering, Ohio. That tournament will be IUPUI's final event of the fall season.
