TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Sophomore Amy Raker went 3-for-6 with four RBI on Wednesday, but host Indiana State swept a doubleheader at Price Field, 8-2 and 5-4. In the opener, IUPUI fell behind 2-0 early but battled back before allowing five runs in the bottom of the sixth to see ISU break the game open.

In game two, the Jaguars fell behind 4-0 before pulling even in the fourth, but saw the Sycamores score the game-winning run in the sixth. IUPUI fell to 3-34 on the year while Indiana State improved to 10-17.

Trailing 2-0, IUPUI tied the first game in the top of the third with a pair of two-out runs. Freshman Jessica Huey set the table with a ground ball single and moved to second when Stacy Harte drew a walk. Raker followed by drilling a double to center, her sixth of the year, plating both runs.

ISU immediately regained the lead when Meredith Simpson led off the third with a solo homerun, making it 3-2. After IUPUI threatened in the fifth, the hosts blew the game open with two swings of the bat. The first came when Audrey Childress blasted a two-run double and Sam Markowski followed with a two-run homer, making it, 8-2.

Katie Armour (2-1) tossed the complete game victory, whiffing five and walking two. Raker (1-12) was saddled with the loss as she allowed eight hits and three walks in six innings work. She was 2-for-3 at the dish, accounting for half of the Jaguars' four hits.

In game two, the Sycamores jumped on IUPUI freshman Samantha Bumbaugh for four runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the rookie settled down from there and was brilliant.

Meanwhile, the offense began chipping away in the second inning as Kristine Grohnke reached on an infield single and later scored on Sarah Oppelt's base hit. In the third inning, junior Mia Ettl launched her team-high sixth homer of the season to lead off the inning to make it 4-2.

In the fourth, IUPUI pulled even when Raker drilled a two-out single, scoring Huey and Amanda Mackey.

However, ISU got the game-winning hit in the sixth when Markowski came off the bench for a clutch two-out run scoring single, making it 5-4. IUPUI went down in order in the top of the seventh as Meagan McCurdy (1-3) got the win in relief.

McCurdy worked the final four innings, striking out six and walking one. Bumbaugh (1-11) struck out four in six innings, giving up 10 hits in defeat.

The Jaguars will now open a three-game Summit League series on Friday at the IUPUI Softball Complex, beginning with a 4 p.m. first pitch. Live stats will be available on www.IUPUIJags.com.
