AMES, Iowa - The IUPUI softball team fell behind 6-0 in the bottom of the first inning and never rebounded as North Dakota State raced to a 10-0 five inning victory at the Southwestern Athletic Complex on the Iowa State campus. With the win, NDSU captured a three-game series sweep over the Jaguars.

NDSU (20-13, 8-1 Summit) starter Andi Padilla (14-7) held IUPUI to just three singles in the complete game shutout while the Bison used eight hits and three Jaguar errors to plate 10 runs.

Freshman Sarah Oppelt reached on a one-out infield single in the first inning, but was promptly erased trying to steal second. In the bottom half, NDSU took advantage of three free passes from freshman hurler Samantha Bumbaugh (1-10) and a fielding error to start its big rally.

Jackie Currie later drilled a 1-0 pitch over the leftfield fence with the bases loaded to plate four unearned runs. NDSU continued to pour on the offense, pushing home a single run in the second and three final runs in the third.

Melissa Chmielewski went 2-for-4 with three RBI while Elisa Victa scored three runs from the No. 2 spot in the batting order. Senior Cayleigh Harvey finished 1-for-1 and had a hit for the second consecutive game.

Bumbaugh struck out a season-high five batters and walked eight in defeat. Only three of the 10 runs she allowed were earned. Padilla fanned one and faced just two batters above the minimum.

IUPUI (3-32, 1-11) returns to action on Tuesday, April 7 when it heads to Terre Haute, Ind. to take on Indiana State. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. from Price Field at the Eleanor Forsythe St. John Complex.
