AMES, Iowa - The IUPUI softball team's struggles continued as the Jaguars dropped an 8-0 and 8-2 decision to North Dakota State at the Southwest Athletic Complex on the Iowa State campus on Thursday afternoon. Offensively, IUPUI churned out nine hits in the nightcap, but saw NDSU post 12 base hits in that contest.

In game one, NDSU starter Andi Padilla toiled a complete game two-hitter and while Melissa Chmielewski go 3-for-4 with a grand slam in the victory.

IUPUI (3-31, 1-10 Summit) could only muster a single from Sarah Oppelt to leadoff the game and an infield hit from Laura Wilcox to lead off the third. Wilcox moved to third when Lauren Popov reached on an error, but Padilla recorded a strikeout and back-to-back ground outs to keep IUPUI off the board.

Chmielewski broke open a 2-0 game with her grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning off Popov to make it 6-0. The Bison opened the inning drawing walks around a bunt single to load the bases.

NDSU (19-13, 7-1) hammered out 11 hits as Chmielewski and cleanup hitter Kelly Cantrell combined to go 5-for-8 with seven RBI. Padilla (13-7) struck out three in the victory while Popov (0-7) walked five in defeat.

Sophomore Amy Raker came on in the fifth in relief and allowed two runs (both earned) out of the bullpen.

In game two, IUPUI posted nine hits, including three from Raker, but was held to just single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

NDSU took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first off starter Samantha Bumbaugh (1-9) and later tacked on two runs in the fourth inning.

Trailing 7-0, Cayleigh Harvey drilled a two-out, bases loaded single in the sixth inning to score pinch runner Kristine Grohnke. However, IUPUI left the bases filled when starter Kim Westendorf (4-3) got Mia Ettl to ground out to first.

Sophomore Stacy Harte tacked on a solo homer, her second of the year, to cap the game's scoring.

Raker was 3-for-4 while both Harte and Wilcox had two hits apiece.
