WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The IUPUI men's golf team gave a workmanlike effort at the Boilermaker Invitational, leapfrogging three teams en route to a 12th place finish at the 18 team event. The Jaguars posted a final round 293, its second-best round of the spring, to complete the 54 holes at 897. Junior Ian Pavlechko paced IUPUI with a final round one-under 71 to finish the tournament at 221 (75-75-71).

He and teammate Ben Engle tied for 30th among the 93 player field as Engle went 76-72-73 over the weekend.

Fellow sophomore Michael Powell finished at 225 (76-74-75) and fifth-year senior Tyler Zink rebounded for a sluggish Saturday to finish at 231 (77-80-74). Senior Jeff Bertch rounded out the Jaguars' lineup at 240 (78-79-83).

Illinois ralled to win the tournament title, bettering Penn State by one shot. The Fighting Illini entered play two shots back of the Nittany Lions, but posted a 284 on Sunday to finish at 855. Penn State notched a 287 to close play at 856. Indiana made the biggest jump of the day, turning in a final round 281 to move from 11th to fifth on Sunday.

Wisconsin's Dan Woltman and PSU's Kevin Foley shared medalist honors as the duo ended at 207. Illinois' Chris DeForest was the only player to break par all three rounds and finished third at 209.

IUPUI returns to action on Monday when it takes part in the WIU/Beu Mussatto Invitational in Macomb, Ill.. Tee times are scheduled for 8:00 a.m..
