Box Score
INDIANAPOLIS - Visiting South Dakota State hung a five spot on IUPUI in the top of the third inning on its way to a 7-2 win over the Jaguars on Saturday afternoon. The win gave the Jackrabbits a three-game sweep over the Jags in Summit League play.
IUPUI (2-24, 1-5 Summit) started on a high note when junior
Mia Ettl blasted her team-high fifth homerun of the season to start the game to give the Jags an early 1-0 lead.
However, Brooke Postma drilled a three-run homer in the top of the third inning off
Amy Raker to put the Jacks up 3-1. Later in the inning, Stacey Evans rolled a two-run single back up the middle to give the guests a 5-1 advantage.
Head Coach
Maggie Calcaterra's squad got a run back in the bottom of the fourth when
Stacy Harte led off with a free pass and later scored when
Cayleigh Harvey lined a double into the gap in left-center. However a Kelsey Lunn two-run double in the top of the fifth squashed any IUPUI momentum and set the final margin.
SDSU (6-20, 3-0) got hits from seven of its nine starters and knocked out four extra-base hits. Brittany Postma went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI.
Both Ettl and
Sarah Oppelt extended their hitting streaks to four straight games with base knocks on Saturday.
Raker (0-8) took the loss, striking out two and walking one. Pam Nicholson (3-5) fanned five in the complete game victory.
The defeat was IUPUI's eighth straight since taking game two of the Oakland series on Mar. 14.
IUPUI concludes its 12-game homestand on Monday when it hosts Valparaiso in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m.. Live stats will be available on IUPUIJags.com.
