CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. - Despite turning in its second-best 18-hole score of the spring, the IUPUI women's golf team was unable to climb the leaderboard in the final round of the EKU El Diablo in Citrus Springs, Fla. on Friday. The Jaguars carded a final round 334 and finished the 54-hole event with a score of 1,027, finishing 15th at the par-72, 5,902-yard El Diablo Country Club.
Ball State won the event at 914 while James Madison and Florida Atlantic tied for second at 927.
Juniors
Courtney Jelinski and
Stephanie Greer excelled over the final 18 holes, both shooting 80s on Friday. The duo tied to finish 63rd among the 87 player field at 254. Greer's 80 on Friday was her best round of the season while both set a new career-best for 54-hole scores.
Freshman
Lauren Kuss finished the event at 256 (86-82-88) while senior
Emily Felts closed at 271 (88-95-88). Freshman
Melanie Pray ended the three rounds at 277 (102-89-86).
Florida Atlantic's Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn repeated as medalist of the tournament, finishing at at 213 (68-71-74). Her score was four shots better than her winning score from a year ago and bettered this year's field by 10 strokes.
IUPUI will now return to action in 10 days when it takes part in the Butler Spring Invitational at Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Ind.. Tee times are scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on both Monday and Tuesday.
