HAUGHTON, La. - The IUPUI women's golf team completed its first tournament of the 2009 spring season, taking third of four teams at the Centenary Ladies Invitational with a final score of 698 (350-348). Host Centenary won the tournament at 641 (320-321) and fellow Summit League school North Dakota State took second at 673 (339-334).
Centenary's Jessica Garza defeated teammate Jessica Marquart in a playoff at the par-72, 6,270-yard Olde Oaks Country Club to earn medalist honors. Both ended the tournament at 158 as Garza made up three strokes on her teammate on Tuesday.
Head Coach
John Andrews used four freshmen in his five player lineup, which was led by rookie Kristi O'Brien. The Fort Wayne-native took sixth of 20 competitors with a 36-hole 167 (84-83).
Behind her,
Laura Roseberry was 11th at 176 (88-88) and
Lisa Houseman tied for 12th at 177 (90-87). Junior
Brittany Scheetz turned in a 178 (88-90) and
Brittney Miller closed out the quintet at 185 (91-94).
IUPUI returns to action on March 9-10 when it takes part in the Butler North-South Collegiate in Jacksonville, Fla..
